Dou’s practice reflects on movement, cultural transition, and the shifting relationship between the self and society. Informed by spontaneous expression, everyday observation, and emotional honesty, her work considers how personal experience can become a visual language for examining belonging, memory, and change.

Often situated between tradition and the present moment, Dou’s work explores how individuals navigate social identity in changing cultural environments. Rather than treating identity as fixed or singular, her practice approaches it as fluid, layered, and continuously shaped by place, memory, and lived experience.

Through experimentation with materials, gesture, and process, Dou embraces imperfection as an essential part of human experience. The physical act of making becomes a way to record uncertainty, vulnerability, and transformation, allowing the work to hold both personal reflection and broader social resonance.

For Dou, art is not simply a profession, but a necessity — a way to observe, process, and reconnect with life. Beyond her studio practice, she has also participated in community and NGO-based art projects supporting local women’s health initiatives and charitable programs through art.
